Just over a month ago I got my first mole kingsnake. Last night, I saw my first ever Carolina Pygmy Rattlesnake! I've been hoping to see one of these for years and finally got my wish around 11pm last night. I don't want to divulge much information about the location of this find because the "reddish" pygmies are highly sought after by local collectors who may be viewing posts on this forum. The picture did come from the lower Piedmont of South Carolina. I was headed home after a long night of road cruising with little success when I saw what I thought was just another small branch in the road. Fortunately, I was able to avoid running this "branch" over, as I was doing 30 to 40 mph (much faster than typical cruising speed). The snake was released, but it took almost all of my will power to keep from taking it home with me.
