This is certainly a sad situation. However, you can't argue that Mr. Haast didn't live a long, and fulfilled life. Countless people can thank him for his dedication to put himself in harms way to provide the raw materials necessary for the production of antivenom. I've read that his own blood has been used to make antivenom.

If only we all could still be spry and mentally young at the ripe age of 100. Kind of makes you wonder if his SI had anything to do with it.
