You make a separate Flexwatt assembly (can be small, like 1 ft long), plug it into the same controller as the Flexwatt in the cages, and you attach the probe to that.
This separate piece can be placed somewhere in the room, perhaps on a piece of scrap wood of the same type you used in the cages. You can even cover the Flexwatt with Vinyl flooring to closely match what the cages have and place the probe on top of that. I would tape the probe down - you don't want it moving off of the heater.
I find overhead heat (RHP or CHE) alot easier and more effective for many types of herps than Flexwatt. Depends on the species and type of cage of course. Wood cages lend themselves well to overhead heating. And there is something to be said for NOT heating wood and vinyl directly.
Some of the animals that I have had do extremely well using CHE or RHP heat include hognose snakes, rosyboas, boa constrictor and cornsnakes. My opinion of course. Rosies produced nice big babies using CHE heat only.
