The Reptisun 10.0 is for more of the desert species like Bearded Dragons. The Reptisun 5.0 is the one you would want for your turtles. I have not not had any experience with the compact bulbs so I have to say the long fluorescent tubes are the best. This needs to be placed above the enclosure without glass or anything solid in between. The turtle will get no benefit from the light if you have it outside the glass. I have had my turtles for many years and I find that the Reptisun is my preferred light for UVB (they are outside in a pond in the summer.) Keep in mind that you also need a bulb for heat. This can be a regular household bulb of the proper wattage directly above the basking area to keep it 85-90 degrees. Make sure to use a thermometer to check the temps. If you have a room that is kept at least 70 degrees you will not need a heater for the water.

Hope this helps
Linda
