I just scanned this paper and it seems to make some pretty interesting conclusions/suggestions. The pyros north of the Mogollon Rim = Colorado Plateau clade = L. pyromelana. The pyros south of the Rim = Sierra Madre Occidental clade = L. knoblochi. That now makes many of your generic pyros hybrids or possible hybrids!

I'm not a real fan of the species concept being used by Burbrink. This same concept was used to justify splitting getula into 5 or so separate species. I see a huge amount of more splitting by Burbrink and Co. coming down the road soon.
