Yeah, true story. I've found most snakes prefer poultry to rodents. (Maybe saying "most snakes" is too general, but a lot of them do.) I had a picky burm who I'd fatten up using chicken drumsticks. However, the reason snakes don't suffer from many health problems like vitamin deficiencies is because they eat whole animals. By feeding animal parts to them without everything else, they would still probably live a long healthy life, but then again maybe they wouldn't.
If you want to vary the diet I'd recommend what other users are saying, offer quail or chicks. You can get them from feed stores cheaper than rats. Feeding poultry parts from the grocery store will work, but personally I wouldn't make a long term habit out of doing it.
