I'm pretty sure that the OP meant the genus Nerodia when he asked about the largest Water Snake. Cottonmouths aren't technically Water Snakes, but pit vipers. I've seen Browns(N. taxispilota)that easily topped five feet in length, longer than all but a few Cottons, although my FL Green is heavier built than any of the Browns I've owned.
