Peters- sorry I dont know your real name. I will say this. Most know me as Steven "darkphase" owens because it seems to be what I find. But I keep the uglies as well as the light phase. Most know me as a Nut and I am what I am. I have never seen an alterna I dont like.

And true to my word, I would rather catch the ugliest one eyed alterna any day to the best pyro or anything else.

But.. I do agree with you. Line breeding locality alterna for a certain look "can" damage the integrity of a locality. Example breeding a certain locality for an alterna morph that doesn't normally exist from that site.
