The Nature Conservancy sounds good ideally, but so do most of these organizations. I have never dealt with the NC personally, and don't think I know enough about them to judge them, but the likelihood is, I would not agree with their actions. Word on the street is: They bought a crap load of great herping land in west tx to prevent it from being turned into ranchettes (sounds good right?), but eventually decided they wanted to then sell the land to some of the larger scale ranchers so it could still be profitable but not AS ecologically hazardous. Then, they said herping on the land was illegal and that violators would be castrated or something. I tend to think that these big corporate environmental agencies are not what we need. I think what we need is an individual by individual transformation of ideals.
