Davis is a good ag/vet school and the local herp society meets there too. Did you know they even offer a degree in Wild Life Management or something like that? Sacramento can be pretty fun if you know where to go and there are a lot of places that are in driving distance for day trips. I have friends that surf in Monterey. The water's cold but they say it's fun.
