That have that same intensity about their reptiles (and other exotics). I know I am one of them.

It only annoys me sometimes to see that people seem to think that stance is a normal one to take when speaking about their dogs, but when someone would say the same about a reptile, or other animal, then they are "weirdos" I guess it just comes down to being able to emphasize with ones position, and many more people can do so because many more people are dog owners.

(I've never had a dog, and don't care much for them personally I prefer reptiles, birds, horses, cats and various other animals more...)
