We are talking about carpet pythons here. They can easily take a food item twice as large as their girth. They have evolved to opportunistically feed, thus if a larger than normal food item comes by they will eat it and easily digest. I find they grow better when their food item creates a noticeable bulge. I usually go for something 1 1/2 times their girth.
