The eggs are placed about 6 to 8 inches from the bottom of the box. They can and do make really long burrows. We cook the eggs at 85-86 degrees covered in vermiculite. The eggs are buried about an inch under moist vermiculite. SIM boxes did not work for us. Perlite set up did not work for us.
