I am building my new reptile room and am in process of building the enclosures for my caimans. I would post there but the croc forum has been dead. Since monitors also need large enclosures and many have some sort of pond and/or plumbing firgured a good place to ask. First question is what is the effect of hard water on reptiles especially ones that spend most of their time in water like crocs and turtles? I am moving to the country and obviously have a well hence the hard water. My second question is about plumbing. I want to put a drain in the bottom of the preformed pond (prob going with a shower drain). Is it ok to use the bonding agent for pvc? (the purple stuff)will it effect the water? My plans are i am elevating the pond off the ground and to drill whole in pond and placfe in shower drain and then run a pvc pipe out throught the front wall and put a shut off on the end. There is a drain in the middle of the reptile room so this way when I have to do a water change in the reptile room i can just hook up a hose turn the shut off valve and drain the pond.
