I appreciate your advice, but I've been using this for method for 20 years and never had an issue. I don't keep the bowls very full either, changing the water out three times a week, so maybe that's the difference. The other factor could be the size of the bowl relative to the size of the snake. I don't use this methods at all for adults (I use the ARS racks with the built in deli cup holders), but do use it for hatchlings. The bowl in the pic could hold four of those babies (of course I don't house any snakes together). Anyway, like I said, I do appreciate you offering your advice.

Here's the same snake now as an adult. I just took this pic. Of course she's just starting into a shed, but her colors still look decent.
