Man pleads guilty to reptiles charges

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C., Feb. 26 (UPI) -- A North Carolina man pleaded guilty to charges for keeping 60 venomous reptiles in his home.

Walter Clarence Kidd, 51, of Hendersonville, pleaded guilty in Henderson County District Court to 15 counts of possession of protected animals and 15 counts of failure to properly label the containers in which he was keeping venomous snakes, The Times-News, Hendersonville, reported.

Authorities discovered Kidd was in possession of the reptiles after the man was bitten by an exotic venomous snake in August. Police seized 60 reptiles from his single-wide trailer on Aug. 5.

Kidd was given a 45-day suspended jail sentence and must complete two years of probation. He was also ordered to pay $1,775 in restitution and a $200 fine.

The snakes were taken to the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh after authorities confiscated them.
