The best place to look in winter is under plant pots, against brick walls (at the bottom), they get a covering over the opening of the shell, so they "aestivate" during the colder months. If you can`t find any there, try the freshwater type from aquarist`s shops, just as good, or Apple snails if you can find them for sale, though they can be quite expensive.
