Muscatine considers animal ordinance amendment

MUSCATINE, Iowa (AP) - The Muscatine City Council is wrestling with whether to amend the city's ordinance on wild animals after a snake owner appealed a citation for having pythons in his apartment.

KWQC-TV (http://bit.ly/xCguDQ ) says the city bans venomous snakes and constrictors on its list of wild animals that cannot be kept in the city.

Anthony Wolfmueller found out the two pet ball pythons he's owned for 3 ½ years were illegal during a routine apartment inspection. He is appealing a citation to the City Council, asking the city to allow certain breeds pythons less than 6 feet long. While some council members are supportive, the city administrator and police chief have some concerns.

The council may vote on the issue at the next meeting scheduled for Thursday.
