I saw nothing about it in my local media. If I did not look at the reptile sites, I would not even know about it. I have spoken to several casual hobbyists in my area recently who do not check the sites and shop mainly in pet stores, and have only one or several burmese. They are not "in the loop" as far as the herp world goes. They were completely unaware of this. My guess is that the people that get burned on this will be the ones that have no awareness of this and move to another state with their animals, or in some other way unknowingly break the law and come to the attention of the authorities. Sounds like a good way for the powers that be to make felons out of democrats to take them out of the voting population and generate revenues for more imperialistic wars with outrageous fines to boot!
