The exhaust fan should be on its own 1500Watt capable ON/OFF controller like a Ranco or Johnson Controls unit, assuming that the exhaust fan is 1250 watts or less. If it consumes more than 1250 watts, then you need an external relay to run the power to the fan.

If using a space heater, then heater can be on its own 1500 Watt ON/OFF controller. I have done that, works very well.

If you want more reliability, run two thermostats in series for the exhaust fan or the heater. I think Boaphile sells a pair of ON/OFF controllers wired just for this application.
