yellow/brown snake in Utah's Oquirrh Mtn

I live in the foothills west of the Oquirrh Mountains by the Great Salt Lake. This guy suddenly appeared on my driveway today. I think we scared him up with the weed wacker. He was four feet long exactly, yellow with brown markings. I let him go, hopefully he's keeping the gophers and voles away. So what is he? Thanks!
