They were taken from the wild for the most part until the 90's. One story was they were "Pesk" to farmers because the females would lay eggs in the freshly tilled and planted farm land. When the babies hatched they would eat the new budding crops. An America Reptile Exporter was collecting Reptiles in Suriname and noticed that children were payed to walk up and down the planted crops and kill the babies with sticks. The Exporter made a deal with the farmers and Government to instead collect up the Aagu-pesk Iguanas and the Exporter would pay them so much a head for the Iguanas. The Iguanas were not killed, the Gov. had a quota and tax that was reached this way instead of collecting in the Forest. The American Pet trade got the Greenest baby Green Iguanas that ever came in just in time for Christmass. They were very bright green but the smallest baby Igs I ever saw, but beauty's. Oddly they lost that color as adults and most turned out to be a very dull color with little to no banding/patterns. And that was one story about the so called DARK Times. Vic Morgan
