(I think someone saw 1 too many SciFi channel movies... look at the Goose Creek SC incident)

from the news -

http://news.yahoo.com/snake-bites-wal-mart-stores-not-isolated-incidents-180800847.html

.....The Lewiston (Idaho) Tribune reports Mica Craig continues to recover from rattlesnake bite he received at a Wal-Mart store in eastern Washington state. Craig initially thought the object was a stick outside of the lawn and garden department. Then the "stick" bit him on the hand. KATU reports Craig was treated with six bags of anti-venom at a hospital in Lewiston, Idaho. The bite happened in Clarkson, Wash.

Snake bites in stores are rare, but for some reason there are several cases of Wal-Mart customers being bitten by the slithery reptiles.

Craig's Story

In the middle of Craig's pain, he stomped the snake to death. The 47-year-old is currently recovering. He feels well enough to do television interviews. The Standard-Examiner of Utah reports the man was at Wal-Mart May 11 when he reached down for what ended up being a 20-inch long brown rattlesnake. Craig said he was at the store looking for mulch to grow medical marijuana.

St. Augustine, Fla.

Jeriel Joiner was at a Wal-Mart in St. Augustine, Fla., with his girlfriend in July 2009. Jacksonville.com states Joiner bent down to pick up a baby bottle that had fallen in the lawn and garden section. A baby pygmy rattlesnake latched onto his pointer finger and bit him. The snake was killed by a Wal-Mart employee with a broom. KXAN reported pygmy rattlesnakes are common in Florida and are the variety most commonly found in Wal-Mart stores in the garden section which is mostly outdoors.

Viera, Fla.

John Page had his finger bitten by a pygmy rattlesnake in November 2006, according to WFTV. Four months later, his finger was unable to move and is locked in one position due to the venom from the 12-year-old snake. Page's lawyer claimed to have documented proof of seven snake attacks in Wal-Mart stores going back 20 years. In a statement by the company, Wal-Mart said "it is uncommon when a customer or associate comes across a snake in our garden center."

Jacksonville, Fla.

A Jacksonville, Fla., woman was walking through her local Wal-Mart when a snake bit her in June 2006. A snake bit Delaine Jarrell on the arm. Fortunately for Jarrell, the snake wasn't poisonous. She still went to the emergency room two days later to insure the bite wasn't infectious.

Goose Creek, S.C.

WJBF reported in September 2009 on the story of a man in his mid-30s who was bitten by a copperhead rattlesnake. The incident happened in the lawn and garden section of the Wal-Mart in Goose Creek, S.C. EMTs killed the snake at the store and brought it in the ambulance for later identification. Officials stated only one of the snake's fangs entered the man. Copperheads are common the Carolinas, according to the article.
