I have a fairly large half wet/half dry set up with nothing in it at the moment.
The dry side has a semi-moist substrate made from fine mulch, black soil, a little sand, and lots of moss.
The wet side has an uneven but smooth rocky bottom with some live plants, and circulation is maintained by an in-tank filter that I have cascading over some rocks.
I really could use some help with the following: 1) Suggestions on Newt/Sallie species that will make full use of a large half wet/half dry tank – preferrably temperate or cold water species. I don’t want to have such a large set-up go to waste on something that is strictly terrestrial or strictly aquatic. Lacking a species that would utilize both sides, I would be willing to try two different species that would either coexist well, or simply never bother each other on their respective sides. Some say it’s taboo to mix species, some have had good luck. I have never been to a zoo that didn't have an amphibian habitat several different species in it, so I know it’s possible with the right maintenance. I'm aware of the risk and will research any suggested species. 2) Suggestions on custodial fish or invertabrates to help maintain cleanliness that will not be a threat, or a meal, to anything I keep. I was thinking of cherry shrimp and freshwater snails, but need a second opinion.
Other ideas or suggestions are welcome. Thank you very much.
