Dear Stu, I had similar experience as Johnnic, I had a gravid female who chose to spend a lot of time in her lay box, and she developed some scute rot/blistering. As Alan B. advised, I dried her out, still using coconut coire in her hide boxes, but not damp. She healed readily, I soaked her in water with some betadyne added. Humidity is good, but dampness on the substrate is problematic. Like several others, I use newsprint substrate, it is affordable and works well, and I change it immediately when they defecate, I am not motivated to "spot clean" due to the expense of many other substrates. Most of the time, dryer is better. However, most Colubrids work hard to remain hydrated, so I try to increase humidity, and I also soak them frequently when cleaning etc. I am told skin lesions/blisters are not uncommon in wild indigos and also kingsnakes...too damp for their own good? Vic
