I was most recently out there on the night of July 16th. I saw a fair amount of movement, several common species.
The more frequently found animals on RR are from the areas that have a majority boulder strewn slopes and sparse vegetation, such as the Big Hill and points west. The lack of substrate diversity dictates the typical look that your find demonstrates, it is the most successful color and patterning for that area. That is no slight, I'd be happy to have found it. That said, I was happy to have found an atypical example from a less collected area a few Septembers ago. It comes at a pretty hefty price though, I'm determined to find her a mate, so I've spent just about all of my herp time in the Big Bend dedicated to a road that hasn't been to kind to me either. At least I've got a few other animals I'm working on pairing from there also. I caught a beautiful female lep to the east of Closed Canyon just before East Rancherias, and a male blonde suboc between Panther Canyon and the Big Hill.
