>>Does bleach kill crypto? In strong concentrations, bleach dissolves/softens the lipid shell of the oocysts but may not kill 100% of the organisms being shed by the animal. To kill the organism/oocysts in water bowls and cages, soak the items in strong bleach and let them air dry for several days preferably exposed to sunlight or heat lamps of some sort. The bleach softens the lipid shell and the oocyst loses its protection from drying out. I'll soak for several days, rinse well, air dry for several days. U of KS has done extensive research on crypto (with NIH) and dispenses with the mythology here: http://www.k-state.edu/parasitology/basicbio Unfortunately, an infected animal is forever infected and risks contaminating the collection. This can lead to a tough choice. Good luck, Jeff ----- Let there be triangulum and lo, the milkhead was born.
