They look an aweful lot like the phillips plastics (might be First Phillips?) shoe boxes that I use. I love the boxes, but they're made out of a hard brittle plastic, so assuming they're the same thing, I'm not surprised the handles snap off easy. I don't have much trouble with the boxes breaking so much as I do the lids. Just caught my eye since I've never seen them used lidless before.
