Posted by: wireptile at Sun Nov 25 15:03:19 2012 [ Report Abuse ] [ Email Message ] [ Show All Posts by wireptile ] Today I went to the local big box store to check out an incandescent light bulb sale because, allegedly, 60 W bulbs are being discontinued at the end of this year. I noticed that they STILL had 100 W bulbs still on the shelves for standard prices. Since I thought those were supposed to be discontinued at the end of 2011, according to the newspaper articles, I was surprised to see those. I asked the sales rep for that department about that. He said that the manufacture of the 100's was illegal after 2011, but not the sales and that they still have a stockpile of 100's left over from last year and they are allowed to sell the existing stock. I asked about the 60's and he mentioned that he thought those would be illegal to manufacture after 2013 (I thought it was supposed to be after 2012), but was not sure. He also said he thought other types of incandescents such as flood lights and spot lights would be discontinued then too, but again was not sure.
