Yes, harmless. The high-riding is one sign of the cottonmouth, but the other keys have to be there as well. The vegetation in the water probably made it less comfortable for the snake to ride lower. BTW, Wakodahatchee is a great place to walk & look at all sorts of native wildlife, as is the nearby & larger Green Cay Wetlands due west on Hagen Ranch Road. ~~Greg~~
