Ok. I have three jungle carpets. One I knew was female, one I knew was male, and one that was sold as a male, but has never attempted to breed the female while they are housed together. I assumed, yes the mother of all mistakes, that it was a female due to lack of interest in the female. Now to get to the point...I came back from repticon Shreveport today with a new baby boa and had to move the guaranteed male carpet into the enclosure with the female and the assumed female. I was fixing up the enclosure for the boa until I can bring one of my others out of storage, heard a noise and looked over to see combat rituals taking place between the male and assumed female. I was stunned to say the least. I had noticed the guaranteed feme had looked a little plump in the lower two thirds of her body and has been unfed since the first part of December since the weather has been cold here. My question is will males engage in combat even if the feme is already bred and is developing eggs? I work a rotating shift so I can't observe them while I am gone and my parents help out, but have little knowledge retained about breeding since they are more about husbandry. I would be very happy if she took, but for safety's same I removed the suddenly proven to be male and left in the guaranteed male in case she hasn't bred since he is the better specimen. So, any thoughts folks?
