The only one I saw was a road kill in 1980, near Sarasota. Breeding season, late fall and winter is the best time to see them, based upon what I have read. Go to Project Orianne website and contact those folks. They are southern Georgia, not Florida, but they may be able to help you. Might help if you make them a contribution.
