There is some movement afoot again on the VA Dangerous Animal BAN. This is a broad based bill and though it may not specifically identify animals you keep, it provides provisions that can make things quite difficult for keepers in VA.

I've provided a VA legislative web-link so that you can, read the text and track this thing. I've also provided contact info for the bill’s sponsors. I encourage each of you you to write, email AND call each of these individuals as well as your District Representative. Please keep it respectful and stick to the facts.

1) There is insufficient evidence that these animals, properly maintained, represent a danger to their owners or community at large that is any greater than for the keeping of common domestic animals.

2) There is no evidence that the proper care of these animals is beyond the means of the average Virginian, and therefore out right bans are inappropriate.

3) It is not in the best interest of our democratic tradition to restrict the liberties of responsible citizens simply to placate the fears of a majority, when evidence does not exist to substantiate said fears.

For additional information on lobbying activities, I believe Jarrett Watts is running lead on this. If you are a member, you may wish to also contact USARK and the newly formed Herp Alliance. Work with who you will but please put some effort into this.
