>>Thanks Brian, I believe that snake was recently owned by Jeff Adams. He had 2 pair I believe that came from Shannon Brown. They all looked like Tapalpa ruthveni except for that one. I think he got them from Shannon at different times. It could be arcifera and there was some confusion because of the old names. I almost offered to buy it but the unknown kept me from doing it.

yup, that's exactly who i got it from.

i'm 100% sure that whomever he originally purchased that pair from had tapalpa/chapala mixes.

the male's got the size and head shape of a chapala arcifera but his red has no black tipping and his underbelly is too clean to be a milk - it's more like a tapalpa ruthie.

the female has the right size and head shape like a mexican king, but her red is off too and her belly markings are more like a west mexican milk (not a good pic, she ate a rat last night).

either way, i purchased the pair for exactly that reason. there's been a ton of confusion with this subspecies over the years and i figured that at some point both types of "jalisco's" had to have been non-maliciously bred together.

since i already have a pair of tapalpas and a pair of chapalas i needed to track down a hobby pair of unintentional crosses to round out my collection. problem solved

i work with tri-colored west mexican lampropeltis. some morph, some hobby, and some locale.

everyone is entitled to their options, but no one's opinion will ever change how i feel about the snakes i keep and breed.
