I went for a walk and it was sunny and in the 50s. I could hear Leopard Frogs calling.

While checking out this old stone wall, I saw some movement - a stub-tailed Eastern Garter Snake.

And then on top the wall, another snake, this one brighter in color. It seemed to be looking for something.

And at my feet I saw what they were in search of. A big female, easily the largest Ohio Eastern I've ever seen - and with orange coloration too.

It didn't take long before the snake from on top of the wall to locate the female - check out the difference in size.

There were other snakes out too, though this muddy one was warming up under a large leaf and not "ready for action" yet.

Here's one with some nice yellow color.

And another. I probably saw a dozen in less than half an hour.

It's hard to believe that it was snowing earlier in the week. When I looked out the window on Tuesday morning, I saw this.

I think I'll get used to the change in weather.
