I am trying to calculate what kind of feeder setup I will need for the first year of two nile monitors. It costs, like, over $150 to feed them from standard feed stores and it makes sense to be able to breed food. Also, I like mice. I am not so fond of roaches.

There is a local breeder of dubia roaches and I was thinking I would establish a colony of those, because she says they have a higher protein content and they don't bite like crickets. They also don't climb smooth surfaces. I have a phobia of roaches but they sound healther than crickets. also they don't stare at you. Are they small enough for baby niles?

How many breeding mice, crickets or whatever else do you have to keep in order support your animals completely?

I have heard a lot of breeder use turkey meat. I want the monitors to live the max life span and grow to max size. So I would assume turkey meat is a really bad idea.
