Just got back from Snake Days in Sanderson, Tx. What a great time. Perfect venue, great people, awesome herping.
I hope someone doesnt get all anal about me posting this here since its not strictly pituophis.
I got there Friday after the roundtable discussion but managed to check into our crappy hotel run by a super great guy.
We hiked up on top of a mesa behind our hotel that night and didnt find anything accept some millipedes. We did meet some of the locals (by "meet" I mean they were spotlighting us) but I was hiking with some kids 10 & 5 that were getting tired so we made the summit and descended into our beds.
Next day we found a Texas Banded gecko under some plywood. and that was it. That night though....
I found a TP copperhead devouring a cicada. It had the cicada halfway down when I came across it and quickly spat it out and tried to flee. I got it and still have it. Copperheads have been documented eating adult cicadas in the north but not here. Only larvae found in dissected specimens. (found all this out later). The guys from Southwestern Center for Herpetological Research want me to send the first stool in for analysis and luckily they are only 30 miles away by Dave and Tracy Barker. (who also donated auction items but did not attend)
Many admirable people were in attendance.
Trumbower Jeff Barringer in his "storm chaser" herp mobile snake finding machine. lmao Bill Love (photographed my copperhead and awaiting emailed pics)
I strongly recommend going next year.
