Posting here to whet your appetite for when I am finally able to compile the results, and to perhaps entice some of you holdouts who attended to submit your data for the project--

Basically, the Data Collection Project is like a jigsaw puzzle, where you don't know the total number of pieces, and you lost the box top so you don't know what the final picture is going to look like--all you know is, everyone has a few pieces to contribute.

Overall, individuals and individual teams generally have reported low numbers of animals found, but putting together individual records to get the overall picture indicates an impressive diversity and number of findings.

Data includes observations made not only during the actual Snake Days event (7-9 June 2013), but opportune finds as herpers traveled to/from Sanderson.

So far, with only 15 individuals/teams reporting (still an improvement over last year--and I anticipate at least an additional 16 contributors),

165 specimens were observed--* 75 snakes, 37 lizards, 3 chelonians, 50 amphibians*
37 discrete species documented--17 snakes, 14 lizards, 2 chelonians, 4 amphibians

Of the totals, 30 specimens were DOR. Fortunately, almost all of those reported were found by people recently approved for DOR salvage and deposited with the Texas Natural History Collections at UT-Austin. All told, 37 specimens representing 17 species were submitted to TNHC.

Most people logging observations will be uploading them to the Herps of Texas database on inaturalist.org, and ideally they will also put them into naherp (I'll put my own in, and anyone who indicated they wanted me to enter their data on their behalf).

I know anecdotally that the species count will increase by at least two; just waiting for the "official" submissions.

*not including the AT LEAST 1,000 red-spotted toad tadpoles I observed...didn't want to get people overly excited by including those guys.
