They were blessed with speed, long jaws (big help) and long teeth (which paralyze)and the ability to hold down or pin with their bodies, which is sufficient for a snake without venom or the ability to constrict. I seen a 80" coachwhip grab a jumper rat so hard that I heard it's ribs crack and it eyes popped out of sockets.
