It is not a fair assessment of other people's skills at finding alterna comparing them with your success. You are right, if it takes you 7 days to find one, then one might think it would/should take you 700 days to find 100. There are people out there that have actually caught 4 or 5 in one night and some that have caught 15 to 20 in a year. Knowledge, skill, luck, weather,and perserverence are all required to be successful. Also, as they say in the real estate business, location, location, location. It has been known to be easier in Langtry vs. Blackgap or the Huecos. We have all known for many years that Alterna are probably the most common snake in some parts of West Texas. They are an animal that one needs to KNOW to find regularly. Some are field herpers and some are keepers. It does pay to know your niche.
