BUT, its not the ideal method to incubate reptile eggs. if your friend is doing this now the eggs are most likely ok, but they should really be using a substance called vermiculite(damp, not dripping) and the eggs should be in a sealed container (like Tupperware) to hold the humidity and you need a thermometer at the very least to properly monitor the temp.(82F-85F) If money wasn't an issue I would say bay a $50 chicken egg incubator and put the container of eggs in that just the give the hatchlings the best chance. with what they are doing now they may loose a few babies. if they are going to continue with this method make sure they keep the soil moist it will dry out fast.
