I tried some various ideas for snake cages. I ended up going the easy route. LLL Reptile Supply and/or Big Apple Pet Supply have some magnet-held ledges. I love these things. I have a 3ft plastic cage with one of the large ledges in it. My male boa sits on that ledge at times, and it holds him easily (he is a small locality boa). You can silicon them if desired. I found the magnets strong enough.

Big Apple also sells some really nice backgrounds.. but they are pricey. You can cut to fit. The best I have seen with ledges and such.

I found at Lowes and online sources some nice light-weight fake rock tiles. Those would work nicely as well, just fill the seams between tiles with grout or caulk. These tiles are waterproof and are used as facing for fireplaces, etc.

Lastly, you can make your own out of polystyrene foam or "pink" foam. Either works. Youtube has many examples of backgrounds. I have done it, and it was more time-consuming than I wanted. I prefer to purchase. No time to meticulously carve foam, coat with grout, paint, seal. My easiest one was made from rough-cut white polystyrene foam glued together and simply painted. Much quicker. I have a hide box made like that, works well.
