DAVIS COUNTY CLIPPER (Bountiful, Utah) 12 December 13 Man who owned snakes enters plea in abeyance Clearfield: The man who had a gaboon viper snake in his home entered a plea in abeyance last week. Brody Alan Rigby, 27, was in the Clearfield Justice Court last week where he entered the plea in abeyance to one count of wonton destruction of protected wildlife and one count of importation of protected wildlife. Four other charges were dismissed in the plea deal, according to the court website. If Rigby has no other criminal charges filed against him for a year, the other two charges will be dismissed. He will also pay a $1,133 fine. orth Davis Fire District firefighters were called to Rigby’s home on July 26, on a report of smoke coming from the home. When they arrived, they found 30 snakes, including the deadly gaboon viper and five rattlesnakes. None of the snakes were hurt in the fire that started in the kitchen. Davis County Animal Control and Division of Wildlife Resources officers were called in. It’s illegal to own a viper or rattlesnakes without a permit because they are venomous, DWR officials said at the time. The other snakes Rigby owned, including pythons and boa constrictors are legal to own. Link
