Hi. I've been keeping a pair of Biak GTP's for 7 years that I got off Craigslist. Two years ago I acquired an Aru GTP again off Craigslist for a questionably low price. When I picked him up the previous owner had no idea what he was doing. The animal was in a glass terrestrial setup (no perches) with no heat resting on an AstroTurf rug. He was a good weight and had good muscle tone so I took him.

So the problem is he has been grounded 99% of the last 2 years. Now he eats great, weighs about 1.4 kg, and is in a 2'x2'x30" seamed wood terrarium with many perches and vines. Hot spot at 84 and cool spot in low 70's or so. A reptile friend recently suggested humidity may be a problem so I built a humidifier setup for all my gtps and each cage has dry hours of about 40%, the humidity peaks at 85% (maybe 90% for moments), and is most humid at night (using timers).

He likes the humidifier and a week after installation he was perched, but after I handled him today he's back on the ground. What could be wrong? I'm beginning to think the abusive lack of care by the previous owner just taught him this grounding behavior?
