That's a female. She is definetely of potential egg laying size. There are females that go for many years without enduring the process -- it is a very stressful cycle where they may loose 40% of their weight. If you are going to try, hope you get the right environment for her: A large outdoor area with a big nest box full of damp substrate in a sunny location. Good luck
