I have been researching Nelson’s recently. The official literature quotes their home range thus:



“…found in Mexico from southern Guanajuato and central Jalisco to the Pacific coast. It is also found on the narrow plains of northwestern Michoacán and on the Tres Maria Islands.”



However, when trying to find online snake photos within that range, such as in areas around Lake Chapala & Tapalpa to the west, I keep finding photos of Jalisco Milk snakes. This is the heart of alleged Nelson’s territory, so why are there no Nelson’s photos from the area, only examples of Jalisco snakes?



Just how much do ranges interlap? Are Nelson’s more confined to the coast, with Jalisco milks more likely in the interior?



This may be a question for a breeder or expert like John Cherry or Doug Mong, but if anyone has any insight, or educated guesses, please respond.
