Texas snake (Dead)

First I'd like to say unfortunately the snake was killed. I didn't kill it. I let my dog out and he was sniffing at a single spot for a little while. Noticed it was a snake, so I sent him inside and snapped this photo. It went into my neighbors yard and that's how it ended up dead. I'd like to know what kind of snake it was.
