There are tons of choices out there! I love me some animal plastics cages, but I also use vision, neodesha and boaphile. It depends a lot on how you want the openings and the size. All of these companys rock. If you are looking glass enclosures, Protean Cages is a good option as well for high quality caging.

No need to DIY especially with a kids, time gets short, preman is good.
