First, full cage nesting is only one method, in a series that is more, and less.

Which means, Some folks put a tiny box in another box(George Carlin skit) Why, I have no idea.

When I started on this forum. I was amazed how poorly folks nested hogs. So I made a stink. A couple of folks made small attempts to adjust their methods. With positive results. So now we have full cage nesting. Which is fairly middle of the road. But surely better then what was being promoted.
I developed full cage or more, back in the early seventies, I did so out of need. I needed to be in west texas hunting Grey bands, at the time my kings were nesting. So I made nesting cages the snakes could live in and nest while I was gone. Oh and the eggs would be fine when I got back.

Then many years later, I applied that principle to pythons and great results, then of course I applied it to where it was most needed, with varanids, starting in the early ninties. With varanids, it was live or death. with kings, its was good to better. With pythons, it made hard to breed and hatch species, easy to breed and hatch. I will post pics later or tomorrow. As my pics are not on my new computer yet.
In the meantime nesting is nesting, and its not about full cage. Full cage is just one degree, but far better then a small area in a small cage. Apparently hogs are easy nesters as they are obligate burrowers, so all you need is something to burrow in, make a small cave in the dark and they will nest well. Other species, its more critical. later sir
