yeah, not a MBK... sorta.

It was found on a farm in Ector county TX (west central TX).

it's hard to know what to call it for now, until i do some breeding trials.

some folks think MBK are splendida population that just exhibits hypermelanism due to the habitat or evolutionary pressures. if that is true, then this would be a MBK/ hypermelanistic splendida from a new locale.

now, melanistic splendida have been found before in various parts of TX and eastern NM but they've always had at least some specks of yellow on the throat and chin. mine is entirely black, so it's leading me to believe/hope it may be a recessive form of melanism like the melanistic thayeri.

either way, some breeding will have to be done to see exactly what is going on with this thing.

it's only been in my care for a short while so i'm hoping to breed it late next year or in 2016. i'll be in africa for prime breeding season next year, so it'll be iffy.
